We are excited to announce an upcoming event titled ‘Assessing AI Labels on Political Ads in the 2024 Election,’ which will explore new laws regarding AI disclaimers in political advertising. This virtual webinar will be co-sponsored by the NYU Center on Technology Policy, the American Association of Political Consultants (AAPC), and Lawfare, bringing together experts and thought leaders to evaluate the impact and effectiveness of these AI content labels. The event is on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. ET.

In the run-up to the 2024 election, twenty states adopted laws requiring disclaimers on political ads that contain generative AI. How did campaigns navigate these new regulations and what impact did they have on candidates in the election? As legal challenges to these laws mount, how might the courts assess these new requirements, especially under the First Amendment? Our panel of experts tackle these questions and more:

  • Quinta Jurecic (Moderator), Fellow in Governance Studies at the Brookings Institution and Senior Editor at Lawfare
  • Julie Sweet, Director of Advocacy & Industry Relations at the American Association of Political Consultants Foundation (AAPC)
  • Scott Babwah Brennen, Director of the NYU Center on Technology Policy
  • Berin Szóka, President and Founder of TechFreedom
  • James Dunstan, Senior Counsel at TechFreedom
