We’re excited to announce the second installment of our “Tech in the Courts” virtual series—presented collaboratively by TechFreedom and Washington Legal Foundation. The topic for this crossover event with the Tech Policy Podcast is the Federal Trade Commission’s antitrust lawsuit against Meta. The event is on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at 12:30 p.m. ET.

In 2020, the FTC brought an antitrust suit against Facebook. Since then, the Biden administration has replaced the Trump administration, “Meta” has replaced “Facebook,” and the social-media landscape has changed immensely. Yet the lawsuit rolls on. The FTC wants to break apart Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. But can the Commission show that, in an evolving social-media landscape, Meta wields market power? Can it even define a coherent market? Our two experts will analyze the case and discuss its future:

  • Corbin Barthold, Internet Policy Counsel, TechFreedom
  • Geoff Manne, President and founder, the International Center for Law and Economics (ICLE)
