WASHINGTON, DC — Today, TechFreedom announced that Austin Carson, Legislative Director for House Homeland Security Chairman Michael McCaul and previously senior policy advisor for Rep. Blake Farenthold, will be leaving the Hill next week to become the think tank’s first Executive Director since its launch in in 2011.
“No one’s better equipped than Austin to lead our growth at this critical moment for Internet freedom,” said Berin Szoka, founder and President of TechFreedom. “His experience and skill set make him uniquely equipped to build coalitions across traditional lines on issues from broadband to drones, from surveillance to consumer protection, from Internet law to the sharing economy. I’m excited to have him as a partner in our mission.”
“TechFreedom has the integrity and vision needed for the difficult questions ahead, and I’m thrilled to join the team as we strive to provide thought leadership at all levels of government,” said Austin Carson, Executive Director-elect at TechFreedom. “I’ll bring the same open, collaborative style from my time in Congress and look forward to a smooth transition working with TechFreedom. For all who will join us in exploring these issues — I’m excited for our future together.“
In addition to his legislative work, Carson co-founded the Congressional Tech Staff Association (CTSA), a uniquely bipartisan organization dedicated to fostering dialogue across the ideological spectrum on a wide range of technology policy issues. In his role with TechFreedom, Carson will manage the organization’s growth, step up ongoing educational programming for policymakers, and continue working on policy issues such as FinTech, emerging technology, and cybersecurity.
