Late last week, TechFreedom President Berin Szoka signed onto a coalition letter [ pdf ] with 14 other free-market organizations, including the Competitive Enterprise Institute, the Institute for Policy Innovation, and the National Taxpayers Union, urging the Federal Communications Commission to approve a deal between Verizon and a group cable companies that will free more spectrum for wireless broadband.

As explained in the letter, the transaction will help put downward pressure on consumer prices and will help allocate this limited resource to its most beneficial use. Delaying or denying the transaction will only harm consumers and represent another failure by the Commission to bring new spectrum online to expand mobile broadband access, availability, and affordability.

TechFreedom has written extensively on the spectrum crunch and has been a vocal proponent of this deal, as our filing [ pdf ] and recent statement responding to Sen. Kohl testify.
